ASIAN TOUR OPERATORS AND JOURNALISTS VISIT UGANDA FOR A BENCHMARK TOUR

A delegation of prominent tour operators and journalists from the Asian region arrived in Uganda on November 25, 2024, for a familiarization trip aimed at promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage, diverse wildlife, and stunning landscapes. This initiative was organized by the Uganda High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).

Upon their arrival at Entebbe International Airport, the visitors were warmly welcomed by Moses Kalule Kasujja, the Minister Counsellor at the Uganda High Commission in Malaysia. Kalule highlighted Uganda’s unique offerings, from the iconic mountain gorillas to the tranquil beauty of Lake Victoria, and encouraged the delegation to experience the warmth and hospitality of the Ugandan people. He emphasized, “This familiarization trip is a fantastic opportunity for our guests from the ASEAN region to immerse themselves in the true essence of Uganda.”

Kalule also explained that the experiences the delegation gains during their visit will enable them to promote Uganda as a premier travel destination in their respective markets. Throughout their stay, the delegation will embark on a series of curated tours across various attractions, including Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and cultural hotspots in the capital city, Kampala. The aim of the tour is to showcase Uganda’s biodiversity, cultural richness, and tourism investment opportunities.

The Uganda Tourism Board remains committed to enhancing collaboration with international partners to increase awareness of Uganda as an ideal destination for adventure, ecotourism, and cultural experiences. A UTB spokesperson expressed their excitement: “We are thrilled to host this esteemed group of tour operators and journalists from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, who play a crucial role in shaping travel trends and influencing tourist choices. Their firsthand experiences will help to create authentic narratives that highlight the beauty and diversity of our country.”

This visit comes at a time when the Ugandan government is actively working to leverage its foreign missions and embassies to market the country as a preferred tourism destination. In June 2023, officials from Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the western part of the country, including Queen Elizabeth National Park, as part of a similar initiative.

The familiarization trip is set to conclude on December 7, 2024. The delegation will return to their home countries, where they are expected to share their insights and experiences across various media platforms and travel agencies.
